Porsche Register Plan: NOTE: SK 803: CONCERNING FOR THE FIRST TIME TYPE 60, Volkswagen: Erwin Franz Komenda had finished the scetch on April, 27, 1934
A milestone in Volkswagen history was Komenda’s sketch dating from the 18th of January 1936, in which Komenda first realised a definite VW Beetle shape; its headlights were integrated into the wings and it had a rear window. Komenda’s principle for the Beetle bodywork consisted of large pressed metal sheets, which were placed next to each other. The main parts were simple to replace, because the wings and running boards were screwed on. In this way repair costs which arose were limited.
